LOP/South Nevada County Area –As of Friday February 3, 2017 Higgins Area Fire Protection District increases the level of Emergency Medical Service they provide to an estimated 12,000 permanent residents in southern Nevada County encompassing 91-square miles.
The expanded scope of practice includes an advanced airway known as a King airway that provides a secure airway for patients during CPR or respiratory arrest. In addition, we also can administer Narcan which reverses the effects of an opiate overdose. Both of these interventions have been proven effective saving lives.
The addition of this expanded scope of practice was made possible by the hard work and dedication of Firefighter and Paramedic Branden Wilson who proposed the program and presented it to the Higgins Board of Directors. Branden was also responsible for the implementation and training of these advanced skills. This was accomplished with minimal costs to the district. We are striving to provide the best possible service to our community.
